About The Man

Robert Merten was born in the Ironbound section of Newark, New Jersey. Food was the common language of love growing up and Robert began baking with his Maternal Grandmother at the age of nine, and was greatly influenced in cooking by His Maternal Grandfather and Great Aunts.

A great reader and lover of all things artistic and beautiful, Robert began his working career as a Cosmetologist, florist, and baker.  These careers helped Him pursue his degree in Interior Design.

Robert's career took him to Washington, D.C., where he was an interior designer, color specialist for Benjamin Moore, Historical Wallpaper Archivist, floral designer and always, a baker. After living in the nation's capital, Robert moved south to Beaufort, S.C. with his partner Les Harding.

With the Love & support of His Life Partner Les Harding, Robert was encouraged to write The Cookie King.

The rest they say, is History !

A Few of My Own Words

My Lifelong journey of baking has taken many a turn, and now in retrospect, i can fully appreciate how each small turn has merged to create my ultimate achievement.
Although i have enjoyed many careers, all in highly creative fields, it is my love of Baking Cookies that has alway been my greatest pleasure.  And now, in my autumn, having come full circle, and adding Author & Blogger to my resume, i embrace the title "Renaissance Man" that so many of my more learned colleagues seem to want to bestow on me!
To all that have shared my journey in living Life "Beautifully"

The White House

One of the single greatest "perks" of all my careers was the privilege of being invited to The White House to take part, (a very small Part) at Christmas.
While the pictures in the albums are fading and going off color, my memories are as vivid as the days i stood before these amazing creations and shot them.
Every aspect of every moment is cataloged in my mind forever!
